For most of you who read my blog, you will know just how big a fan I am of Aldrin’s work. One of the legends from my country-of-origin that form the thread that ties me back. This rare treat that he has unearthed for our collective (and grateful) ears is the most telling proof of his skill, imagination and art and for any budding DJ out there, the textbook masterclass masterpiece of what good mixes are about. This mix has a theme (like all his other mixes) and picks up on the decade with the trickiest beats and we’re talking hardcore hand-to-vinyl action that will shame anyone of this era hands down. This theme is entirely 80s decade resourced. Hold on. I know what you’re thinking. No, it’s not a mix for when you put on funny hats to prance like an idiot. This is much more: it is pure art. And I can stake my limbs on this. Put it this way, if words were music, then you will hear this mix end-to-end when you click for the definition of “eclectic”.
On a much deeper and personal note, nearly every track included in Aldrin’s opus were hymns in my baptism into music; this pop plethora is intelligently interwoven with the bright seams of legendary tracks from the ever-eternal Art of Noise. The final effect delivered so astoundingly well that it should warrant serious preparation before listening.
Enough from me. Adjust the volume of your speakers. Click play.
You’re welcome.
About Aldrin:
A little bit about Aldrin: “Aldrin’s plaudit list was already nothing short of impressive, starting the millennium as the only Asian to be featured as DJ of the Month and being named “a contender for Best New DJ” in UK’s Dance Magazine Muzik. Following that, he became the first Asian DJ to appear on the cover of Muzik, with credit for mixing the magazine’s “most on-form” covermount CD. Thereafter, Aldrin was invited to do a 2-hour guest mix for Pete Tong’s world-renowned Essential Mix radio show, making him the only South East Asian to be featured on the show. All these, along with superstar DJ Danny Tenaglia singling him out as his Future DJ Hero in DJ Mag’s Top 100 poll, has propelled Aldrin onto the international platform.
Consistently thrilling crowds of thousands with his flawless, versatile sets, Aldrin has taken his sound all over Asia, Europe, and North America, to top clubs such as Pacha in Ibiza, London’s Ministry Of Sound, Ceilo in New York, Tokyo’s Womb, and Seoul’s Ellui. Aldrin was also nominated as “Best New Comer” for the Ibiza DJ Awards in 2004, while Muzik Magazine referred him as Asia’s NUMBER ONE DJ to catch in Ibiza, where he continues his presence every summer.”
