Linds’ Perspective

A Short and Valuable Lesson on Separating Work and Real Life

Linds Redding writes:

“It takes a certain amount of courage, thinking out loud. And is best done in a safe and nurturing environment. Creative Departments and design studios used to be such places, where you could say and do just about anything creatively speaking, without fear of ridicule or judgement. It has to be this way, or you will just close up like a clamshell. It’s like trying to have sex, with your mum listening outside the bedroom door.”

I find myself agreeing with his perspective on where us (veteran) creative professionals have been through and have been led to believe so often throughout our careers. Lest I also be accused of being jaded out, I would point out that I would still hold up the flame for work done with passion and love… just not at the expense of the values I hold dear and time with loved ones. Yes and this would include working for employers and/or environments that are toxic for your soul, don’t you agree?

There’s more to his views and we are thankful to hear them before he passed. Heartfelt words that are expressed without apology and on so many instances had me nodding my head. If you are in the creative industry, you owe it to yourself to have a read.

Rest in peace Linds and thanks Adage for bringing his blog post to my attention (Adage article here)
